2023 CreateSpace Public Art Forum

I’m very happy to be selected to participate in STEPS Public Art Forum. This program gave me the opportunity to learn about what it takes to create public art in Canada. They provided a community of other emerging artists, mentorship, and an amazing opportunity. The below images are apart of my proposal for a mural located in Burlington. They wanted the proposals to reflect the history of Burlington.

Artwork for Caroline St. side of the building.

I learned a lot about the history of Burlington. It was settled and started to be called Burlington in 1812. Quickly after this it became a farming community. The waterfront provided a great way for them to ship produce to other cities and provide a small trading port. I wanted to incorporate my artistic style, which wasn’t too hard given I work with vintage images regularly.

I sourced all sorts of photos from the online archives of libraries to make up these artworks. They wanted the space to be bright and vibrant as well. I came up with this illustration that would provide this while giving a great ground for the art. One shows the waves of the lakefront, the other is representative of the escapement.

Burlington is also known for the Burlington Skyway, so I couldn’t leave that out of this mural.

Larger mural wall on John St. side of the building.

The forum is still continuing over the next few weeks and then we will find out who’s design will be chosen for this location specific artwork.

This is my first time designing a mural of this kind. It was such a fulfilling project, I hope to be able to do more proposals in the future.
